I was wondering how things have been going. What's the status of the engagement?
On hold, and only time will tell. We're amicable, and hoping for the best. Knowing how things can turn change, I'm not getting my hopes up yet...
That's got to be difficult. I hope everything goes well for you and your children. And amicable is good. Maybe Hashem is just helping you to deal with the hard stuff now so you won't have to deal with it when you're married.
I know many people who suffer from the same financial woes that you do. Most of them share lack of a fiscal discipline. Many of them blame their situation on some larger ideal.
You need to make more money than you spend. This means either working harder or spending less. I am sure that becoming a Jew is a large time commitment - as is being a single mother - but are you really working as hard as you need to be? Or can?
In reading about your whirlwind engagement, it seems that you may be hoping that some Knight in Shining Armor will rescue you from your financial woes? If so, remember that everything comes with a price. If you are looking for someone to pay off your debts, you will end up owned. Is that what you really want?

Thank you for your supportive words. I believe you're right-going through the hard stuff now is beneficial for the future.

I'm very surprised by your comment. I can't believe that I come across as the kind of woman that is looking for a man to pay off her debts. It's laughable, and the furthest thing from the truth. If that's what I was looking for, I could have had it years ago, and outside of the Orthodox world, let alone not by a man with the profession of the one in my life. My whirlwind "engagement" is now at 6 months. Most people would have married by now. It will probably be another 6 before I'm ready to get married.
I can assure you that I'm not financially irresponsible. I won't bore with you with details, but if you had any idea how much my life has changed and just what I have gone through financially, you would be ashamed of yourself for making such a comment.
